Nevşehir sits at the undisputed historic and geographical heart of Cappadocia, a multi-layered cradle of world heritage spanning over 5,000 years. Known anciently as Nyssa and later Muşkara, the city was transformed in the 18th century by Ottoman Grand Vizier Nevşehirli Damat İbrahim Paşa, who renamed it Nevşehir ('New City') and adorned it with grand mosques, libraries, and complexes.
