Eskişehir holds a prestigious position in Anatolian history as an ancient crossroads of civilization, education, and industry. Known in antiquity as Dorylaeum, the region served as a vital strategic pass during Phrygian, Roman, and Byzantine eras. During the 13th century, Eskişehir was deeply shaped by the humanist Sufi philosophy of Yunus Emre and Nasreddin Hoca. It also served as one of the earliest territorial foundations of the Ottoman Principality. In modern Turkish history, Eskişehir played a pivotal role during the War of Independence through the Battles of Inonu and evolved into Türkiye's pioneering center for rail transport manufacturing and aviation industry.
